Hi everyone,

Me and my wife just received news last Thursday that our 2 year old Goldendoodle Roops has been diagnosed with osteosarcoma. We have the fortunate news that it has not spread to her lungs and her lymph nods look good but she will be going in for an amputation of her rear left leg in the next couple of days. I was told about this website and am excited to hear about others stories and their dogs road to recovery. I know it will be a tough road ahead for her but I am open to any and all advice that anyone has since you have all been through an amputation and I am sure some of you have experienced osteosarcoma in your best friends.

Thanks!

K

  1. Oh my gosh she’s so young, I’m really sorry you’re facing this cancer. The good news is that she is going to handle life on three legs SO much better than you ever imagined. Most dogs recover in a few weeks and go on to live lives they love, even with the cancer.

I know the statistics can be depressing but try not to let that get you down. Lots of dogs go on to beat the odds for a long long time, like Bart! He was diagnosed at age 2 or 3 I think and totally kicked cancer’s butt! Check out his blog:

Meanwhile please hop on over to our Discussion Forums (http://tripawds.com/forums/) where you can find lots of support and help from others who have been there. Also check out Jerry’s Required Reading List (http://tripawds.com/2010/06/01/first-tripawds-required-reading-list/) and our Tripawds e-books library too! (http://downloads.tripawds.com/store/)

    Hugs to all of you!

  2. Sorry you had to “join the family”, but under the circumstances there is no better place to be.

You are no longer walking this journey alone and you are supported by people who understand like no others can.

Remember that your Roops doesn’t give a rip about any ole diagnosis and certainly does not have a time frame stamped on his butt!

Once recovery takes place and that painful leg is removed, you will be astounded at how well she does on three legs! Recovery is no picnic for the first two weeks and you may not get much sleel for a few days. Bit by bit he’ll start feeling better though and you will be so glad you did this FOR her!

Glad that all the other tests came back clear. That’s good news. Just get Roops home and love and spoil like crazy. Take lots of pictures. We love pictures around here, and Goldendoodles are adorable!!

TRY not to worry about the future, just stay in the moment…in the present…just like Roops is doing. Let NOTHING rob you of your time together…Roops sure isnt!

My Happy Hannah had her rear leg amputated and had a wonderful quality after that. We treated everyday as a bonus day and made everyday count! When I picked her up after surgery, I didnt even look at her amp. site. I just looked into her druggy eyes and told her what a good girl she was and she wagged and wagged…and she never stopped wagging this entire journey! I vowed to her I would let NOTHING interfere with our time together and I didnt!

We look forward to learning mlre about Roops. Stay connected and let us know how we can help!

Oh, and if you have hardwood floors, cover them with scatter rugs for better traction.

    Sending lots of hugs!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!
